Prepare to be dazzled by history and hidden gems as “Antiques Roadshow” sets up shop at Thirlestane Castle in the Scottish Borders this Sunday. Fiona Bruce leads the charge, guiding viewers through a treasure trove of fascinating objects and the stories behind them. From art nouveau claret jugs to a life-size leather tiger (yes, really), the finds at Thirlestane Castle are as diverse as they are intriguing.
Bruce explores the career of Scottish racing legend Jim Clark and also examines the unique tradition of Hand Ba’, a game with roots deep in Scottish history. Elsewhere, experts pore over a remarkable range of items, from letters sent from the remote reaches of Antarctica to intricately carved tribal paddles from French Polynesia.
Among the discoveries, Marc Allum unearths correspondence from a post office in Antarctica, offering a glimpse into a bygone era of exploration. Adam Schoon attempts to solve a family mystery surrounding a riding spur unearthed on a building site, while Raj Bisram reconnects with a contributor who last visited the Roadshow as a boy, clutching his rare Queen Live LP. Even the charity shop finds impress, including a diamond-and-sapphire brooch purchased for a mere £2.50 and an arts and crafts silver bowl picked up for £6.
“Antiques Roadshow” airs this Sunday, April 27th at 8:00 PM GMT on BBC One.
