Sky History presents the first episode of Apocalypse D-Day, titled “The Great Challenge.” The documentary series, premiering on Thursday 6 June, explores the pivotal moments of Operation Neptune, the large-scale military operation that changed the course of World War II.
This inaugural episode looks into the story of the key turning point of the Second World War, which began on June 6, 1944. A massive fleet descended upon the beaches of Normandy, signaling the start of the liberation of Europe from Hitler’s Nazi regime.
Building on the lessons learned from the Dieppe raid in August 1942 and supported by the Provence landing in August 1944, the mission was a spectacular success. The Allies put aside their political differences and overcame logistical hurdles to execute an operation with unprecedented military stakes.
“The Great Challenge” sets the tone for the series by highlighting the immense planning, coordination, and execution that went into Operation Neptune.
Apocalypse D-Day: The Great Challenge airs Thursday, 6 June 2024, at 9:00 p.m. on Sky History.
