Apple TV+ Announces Documentary Series ‘Boom! Boom! The World vs. Boris Becker’
Apple TV+ has unveiled the official trailer for “Boom! Boom! The World vs. Boris Becker,” a two-part documentary from celebrated Oscar winners Alex Gibney and John Battsek. Set to debut on April 7, 2023, the series will closely follow the rise of pro tennis player Boris Becker, from his early win at Wimbledon to his 49 career titles and Olympic gold medal. Additionally, it will delve into Becker’s occasional stormy personal life.
The filmmakers had the extraordinary opportunity of following Becker for more than three years, until his conviction in April 2022, when he was handed a two-and-a-half year jail sentence for concealing assets and loans to evade payment of his liabilities. “Boom! Boom! The World vs. Boris Becker” features exclusive interviews with him, held the week of his conviction and including talks with his closest family as well as tennis stars including John McEnroe, Bjorn Borg, Novak Djokovic, Mats Wilander, and Michael Stich.
Directed by Alex Gibney and co-produced by Battsek’s Ventureland and Jigsaw Productions, in association with Lorton Entertainment, “Boom! Boom! The World Vs. Boris Becker” is a feature documentary produced by Battsek and Gibney, for which producers George Chignell and Erin Edeiken are credited. Executive producers of the film include Stacey Offman, Richard Perello, Kerstin Emhoff, Andrew Ruhemann, Julian Bird, Duncan Ford and Ed Barratt. These producers have previously worked collaborating on successful documentaries such as Asif Kapadia’s BAFTA Award-nominated “Diego Maradona” and Matt Smith’s “Rooney,” a film focusing on English football great Wayne Rooney.
