Apple TV+ “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” & Plans for Spin-Off Series

Apple TV+ has renewed “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” for a second season and has struck a deal with Legendary Entertainment for multiple spinoff series based on the Monsterverse franchise. This expansion comes as a result of the show’s success, with Morgan Wandell, head of international development for Apple TV+, praising its impact on audiences worldwide.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” is an American monster television series created by Chris Black and Matt Fraction, with the former serving as showrunner. The series is a part of the Monsterverse franchise, following the events of the 2014 “Godzilla” film. It explores the backstory and evolution of the mysterious Monarch organization, which appears in the films, and stars real-life father-and-son duo Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell, playing the same character at different stages of his life.

The first season of the show received positive reviews and ended in January 2024, leaving fans eager for more. The season finale teased future storylines and left viewers with unanswered questions. While a release date for season 2 has not been announced, it is unlikely to arrive until late 2025 at the earliest.

The upcoming season will be executive produced by Chris Black, Matt Fraction, Joby Harold, Tory Tunnell, Matt Shakman, Andrew Colville, and Jen Roskind. Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita will executive produce on behalf of Toho Co., Ltd., the owner of the Godzilla character.
