New Zealand streamers can now access Apple TV+ directly through Amazon’s Prime Video Channels. This expands the reach of Apple’s streaming service and gives Prime Video users in New Zealand another add-on option.
Here’s the Lowdown: Starting this week, Apple TV+ is available as a Prime Video Channel in New Zealand for NZ $15 per month (about US $8.75). Prime Video Channels is a marketplace where Amazon Prime members can add subscriptions to other streaming services.
What This Means Now: New Zealand Prime Video users have an easier way to subscribe to and watch Apple TV+ content, including shows like Severance, Ted Lasso, The Morning Show, and Silo, plus live Major League Soccer (MLS) with an MLS Season Pass subscription, all within the Prime Video app.
The Bigger Picture: This move is part of a larger strategy by Apple to increase subscribers to its streaming service. Besides partnering with Amazon, Apple has also made its Apple TV app available on various third-party platforms like Roku, Amazon Fire TV, and Samsung smart TVs. Prime Video Channels is a major way to access a wide range of customers, particularly for smaller streaming services, with one report showing Amazon accounted for a massive 58 percent of sales to third-party services in the first half of 2024. It gives the New Zealand customer more streaming choice.
