Attic Prison, Online Peril: Lifetime’s New ‘Girl In’ Movie Explores Digital Dangers

Lifetime continues its focus on captivity stories with “Girl in the Attic,” the newest movie in the network’s “Girl In” franchise. Premiering Saturday, June 14 at 8:00 PM ET, the film uses a ripped-from-the-headlines feel for a story about the very real dangers that can come from sharing too much online.

Sophia Carriere stars as Kelsey, a young woman whose passion for marathon training leads her to document her running progress online. Sadly, this openness attracts the wrong kind of attention. Keenan Tracey plays Billy, who abducts Kelsey, turning her training efforts into a desperate fight for survival.

Imprisoned in the attic, Kelsey finds an unexpected potential ally in Billy’s mother, Debbie, played by Jean Louisa Kelly. As Debbie starts to uncover the truth about her son’s disturbing actions, she faces a difficult choice: ignore it, or try to help Kelsey escape. Together, they must find a way out, dealing with both Billy’s volatile nature and the suffocating reality of their confinement.

“Girl in the Attic” presents another disturbing scenario within Lifetime’s ongoing exploration of abduction and survival. This time, there’s an unsettling modern twist: Billy uses videos of Kelsey while she’s held captive to make money, revealing the dark side of internet culture.

Directed by David Weaver and written by Jill Abbinanti-Burke, Ali Laventhol, and Tawnya Bhattacharya, “Girl in the Attic” joins other Lifetime movies – like “Girl in the Basement,” “Girl in the Bunker,” and “Girl in Room 13” – that look at the strength and resilience of women trapped in terrifying situations.
