Network 10’s broadcast of the 2025 Formula 1® Australian Grand Prix scored its biggest race audience since 2016, with 3.6 million Australians tuning in throughout the weekend. Sunday’s race viewership jumped a massive 31% compared to last year.
Here’s the Lowdown: Lando Norris’s first-ever F1 win for McLaren, combined with unpredictable weather and several crashes, kept viewers glued to their screens. A total of 1.72 million Australians watched the race, making it the #1 sport of the day. The event reached 3.6 million viewers across the weekend on 10, 10 Bold, and 10 Play, with BVOD (streaming) viewers up a huge 97% on 2024.
What This Means Now: These figures show a strong resurgence in interest in Formula 1 in Australia. The combination of a dramatic race, the “Netflix effect” of Drive to Survive, and the presence of Australian driver Oscar Piastri likely contributed to the ratings boost. Commercial shares were the highest since 2008, hitting 60.4% across all viewers.
The Bigger Picture: A record-breaking 465,498 fans attended the event at Albert Park, highlighting the growing popularity of F1. Network 10, with its 23-year history of broadcasting the Grand Prix, provided over 23 hours of coverage. This success further cements Network 10’s position in delivering key sporting events. F1 legend, Guenther Steiner and expert F1 reporter Rosanna Tennant were also on hand. And viewers can catch up on all three days of coverage on 10 Play now.
