The Melbourne summer is about to reach its peak, and that means one thing: the Australian Open. From Sunday, January 12, the city will once again be at the centre of the tennis world, with the Nine Network providing comprehensive coverage of this major event. Across Channel 9HD, 9GemHD, and streaming platform 9Now, over 300 hours of live action are planned, spanning all the big moments of the competition.
This year, the on-court action will be as compelling as ever. The return of Nick Kyrgios will certainly add a volatile element, but will that be a factor as the tournament progresses? He will be facing the current champion Jannik Sinner, and two of the most famous tennis players of the last twenty years; Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz. On the women’s side, all eyes will be on Aryna Sabalenka as she attempts to defend her title from a very competitive field.
And on hand to capture every moment of the competition will be Nine’s broadcast team. Veteran commentators like Jim Courier, a former Australian Open champion, will add his unique insights, while Australian tennis greats such as Lleyton Hewitt and Sam Stosur will be providing their own analysis. Outside of the tennis world, Olympic gold medalists Ariarne Titmus and Jess Fox add a new perspective to the coverage.
Beyond the court, the network will offer some additional programming. “A Night With Novak” will dig deeper into the career of one of the most successful players in the sport, whilst “The Hundred” will be adding a light-hearted tone, in the form of a special edition of their popular panel show.
As the eyes of the world turn to Melbourne, the Australian Open 2025 is set to be a true spectacle, and the Nine Network intends to bring it to screens in a way that captures its scope and human drama.
