ABC is betting big on football fever with its 2 June installment of Australian Story, going inside the high-stakes journey of Ange Postecoglou, fresh off a history-making Europa League title with Tottenham Hotspur.
Titled Game of His Life, the episode offers rare access to Postecoglou as he unpacks the realities behind the club’s European triumph—one that ended a 17-year trophy drought and earned him cult status among Spurs fans. “Toughest thing I’ve ever done,” he admits in the interview, referencing the pressure cooker of managing a club with global scrutiny and uneven Premier League results.
It’s a high-profile get for the long-running ABC series, which leans into its archive to pull up earlier conversations from 2015 and 2017, mapping Postecoglou’s rise from the fringes of Australian soccer to the elite tier of European football. Sports analyst Richard Hinds and childhood friend Nick Deligiannis also weigh in, painting a portrait of a coach driven by resilience and a refusal to play it safe.
Despite the European silverware, the episode also looks at the heat Postecoglou faced during his two seasons at Tottenham, where the club’s domestic form drew criticism. He insists the story’s far from over: “More stories to tell, more trophies to be won.”
Produced by Jennifer Feller and Lisa McGregor, the episode airs Monday, June 2, at 8:00 PM AEST on ABC and will also be available to stream on ABC iview.
