This May, Shelter, the Australian streaming platform dedicated to architecture and design, presents two compelling programs: “Manifestation of Action: The Promise,” a career retrospective of renowned Indian architect Balkrishna Doshi, and “Dan Graham: Observatory,” a short documentary exploring artist Dan Graham’s installation on the rooftop of Le Corbusier’s La Cité Radieuse.

“Manifestation of Action: The Promise”

Premiering on May 6, “Manifestation of Action: The Promise” delves into the life and work of Balkrishna Doshi, one of India’s most influential architects of the 20th century. The 90-minute documentary reflects on Doshi’s iconic buildings, including the Shreyas Comprehensive School, Kamala House, and the Institute of Indology. Doshi, a recipient of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, shares his sources of inspiration and offers insights into his design process. The film highlights his belief in the importance of natural space and freedom in architecture, a philosophy that sets his work apart.

“Dan Graham: Observatory”

Available for streaming on May 20, “Dan Graham: Observatory” explores the intersection of art and architecture in Dan Graham’s installation on the rooftop terrace of La Cité Radieuse. Graham’s work, consisting of convex and concave mirrors and concrete slabs, creates a unique dialogue with Le Corbusier’s iconic masterpiece. The 11-minute documentary includes reflections from MaMo Director Ora-Ito on the exhibit’s connection to Le Corbusier’s era of architecture.
