Back Roads pays a visit to Victoria’s wild Bass Coast, where host Heather Ewart uncovers the region’s ancient secrets and meets locals who embrace unique lifestyles.
In this episode, Heather explores the untamed beauty of the Bass Coast, a place that attracts those seeking a fresh start and an opportunity to try new things. She is joined by local resident Jon Von Goes, a civil celebrant and radio host, who shares his story of leaving the inner suburbs of Melbourne behind in favour of Archies Creek. Jon, a self-described “pretentious creative type,” now enjoys life in a small hamlet known for its vibrant live music scene.
The Bass Coast’s coastline holds ancient secrets, and Heather meets with Mel Lowery and the Dinosaur Dreaming Team, who are making world-first discoveries around Inverloch. Their findings are changing our understanding of dinosaurs.
The episode also introduces us to 82-year-old Wendy Crellin, who, after the death of her husband, decided to pursue her passion for ballet. She started a ballet school in Wonthaggi, teaching students aged 60 and above. What began with just four students has now grown to a class of 40, fulfilling lifelong dreams for many.
Back Roads: Bass Coast, Victoria airs on ABC Australia on Tuesday, 10 September at 8.00 pm.
