Awards season reaches a fever pitch this Sunday with the 78th BAFTA Film Awards, airing on BBC One. David Tennant, no stranger to awards ceremonies (or, you know, regenerating), will host the evening’s festivities. Expect his usual charm, wit, and perhaps a hint of Time Lord know-how to deal with the inevitable acceptance speech overruns.
This year’s nominees represent a wide range of films, from the much-hyped “Wicked” to the more intimate “Conclave” and the Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown.” Will the BAFTAs align with early Oscar buzz, or will they throw us a curveball?
Adding to the evening’s glamour, Take That will take to the stage for a musical performance. And because no awards show is complete without a slightly unexpected musical interlude, Jeff Goldblum will also contribute a special performance. He’s a very accomplished pianist so expect something jazzy and cool.
The BAFTAs, while celebrating both British and international film talent, often offer a glimpse into potential Oscar winners. So, for those playing awards season bingo, this Sunday’s ceremony is a must-watch.
