In this episode of Bar Rescue, hospitality protégé Dustin Drai is sent to Glendale, Arizona, to help turn around a local institution. The bar, La Perla Sports Cantina, has been treated as an owner’s hangout, with free drinks given to friends, and it’s now losing money.
Jon Taffer, the show’s host and a bar and nightclub owner, usually takes the lead on rescues, but this episode sees him hand over the reins to Dustin. Taffer has started, flipped, or owned over 600 bars and clubs in his career and currently owns one of the most highly respected consulting firms in the industry. He is also one of the first inductees of the Nightclub Hall of Fame.
La Perla Sports Cantina’s owner has been treating the bar as his personal hangout. The bar is giving away free drinks, and staff members have reported that the owner is rarely present. The bar is losing money, and Dustin has been called in to help.
Taffer, Dustin and his team will have just 36 hours to turn the bar around. They will need to address the issue of free drinks, train the staff, and implement a new concept and design. The bar’s owner will also need to be convinced to take a more hands-on role in the running of the business.
