On Friday BBC One’s Bargain Hunt, heads out to the picturesque Carmarthenshire countryside and the fascinating world of bookbinding.
Danny Sebastian meets Philippa Räder, a renowned bookbinder with a royal connection. Philippa, who once cared for the prestigious collection of books at Windsor Castle, welcomes Danny into her workshop, where she reveals the intricate art of gilding book covers with real gold using heated brass stamps.
The show then shifts to the bustling antiques fair in neighbouring Powys, where two teams, led by experts Izzie Balmer and Kate Bliss, look through a sea of collectibles in search of valuable finds. Married couple Nathan and Carrie are confident in their strategy of buying items just a pound below the best price. Their rivals, the blue team, consist of husband and wife duo Marta and Richard, who are on the hunt for unique and quirky pieces, preferably silver.
As the teams dive into the vast array of items, Kate’s team considers a lot of hockey sticks and cricket bats, while Izzie guides the blues away from a ship’s wheel and advises them to pass on a watch bracelet. With auctioneer Gareth Wasp providing estimates, the excitement builds as Danny discovers whether the teams’ choices will pay off or fall flat.
Will Nathan and Carrie’s tactic prove successful? Will Marta and Richard’s quest for quirky treasures lead them to victory?
Bargain Hunt: Builth Wells 17 airs on Friday 4 October 2024 at 12:15 PM on BBC One.
