BBC Announce John le Carré’s Spy Thriller “The Night Manager” Will Return

The BBC has announced the return of the award-winning spy thriller “The Night Manager” for two more seasons, with filming set to begin later this year. The series is inspired by the characters in John le Carré’s bestselling novel of the same name and will once again star Tom Hiddleston as Jonathan Pine.

The new seasons will be written by series creator David Farr and directed by BAFTA winner Georgi Banks-Davies. Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie will serve as executive producers, joining returning producer Stephen Garrett.

The first season of “The Night Manager” premiered in 2016 to critical acclaim and became one of the most-watched TV shows of that year, attracting over 10 million viewers in the UK alone. The series won multiple BAFTAs, Emmy Awards, and Golden Globes, including Best Actor for Hiddleston.

The new seasons will pick up eight years after the explosive finale of the first season, with Pine facing a new challenge. The story will be extended beyond le Carré’s original novel, a decision that Farr did not take lightly. He expressed his desire to pay homage to le Carré’s unique world of “dark corners and shady identities.”

The Cornwell brothers, Simon and Stephen, who run The Ink Factory, the production company behind the series, shared their enthusiasm for the new seasons, stating that the “compelling characters and the vision David has for their next chapter were irresistible.”

Charlotte Moore, BBC Chief Content Officer, also expressed her excitement, stating, “Bold storytelling and a stellar lineup in front of and behind the camera made it unmissable viewing, and the scale and ambition behind the new season will take it to even greater heights.”

The new seasons of “The Night Manager” will premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK and will be available globally on Prime Video.
