BBC Pop Music TV is set to broadcast a new three-part documentary series, Boybands Forever, this autumn. Mindhouse Productions, the award-winning production company behind “Louis Theroux Interviews,” “Lockerbie,” and “Gods of Tennis,” has created the series. It offers an in-depth examination of the boy band phenomenon that swept the UK and Ireland in the 1990s and 2000s.
The three hour-long episodes will feature candid interviews with some of the region’s most distinguished pop stars, including Robbie Williams of Take That, Brian McFadden of Westlife, and members of East 17, Blue, Five, 911, and Damage. The series will explore the profound impact of sudden fame, from their humble beginnings to their chart-topping success, revealing behind-the-scenes moments that shaped their careers.
The show will also include interviews with music industry figures such as Simon Cowell, Nigel Martin-Smith, Louis Walsh, and Daniel Glatman, providing a unique perspective on the music industry during that era. Presenters, journalists, and industry insiders who experienced the boy band craze before social media will share their insights.
Executive Producer Louis Theroux says: “I couldn’t be more thrilled about this series. An epic story featuring a cast of stars and star-makers, spanning three decades, it involves some of the icons of modern British pop. Those boys we all watched singing and dancing in tight formation – Take That, East 17, Westlife, Blue, Five, Damage, 911 and so many others – are now middle aged men who have the time and the maturity to look back and reflect on what they went through. It’s taken us more than a year to make the series. Now I’m just excited for people to see it.”
Boybands Forever is a three-part documentary series produced by Mindhouse Productions for BBC Pop Music TV and BBC Two.
