BBC, Moonage Pictures (The Gentlemen), and Nicolas Winding Refn have started filming a new series of The Famous Five for the BBC in the UK, co-produced with The Mediapro Studio. The 2 x 90-minute series follows the successful first series, with The Curse of Kirrin Island being CBBC’s top-rated episode in 2023.
Diaana Babnicova returns as George, alongside Elliott Rose as Julian, Kit Rakusen as Dick, and Flora Jacoby Richardson as Anne. Kip, the Bearded Collie Cross, plays Timmy the dog. Jack Gleeson, James Lance, and Ann Akinjirin reprise their roles, joined by new cast members including Maria Pedraza, Amir Wilson, and Jemima Rooper, who previously starred as George in the 1990s series.
Based on Enid Blyton’s classic stories, the series follows the young explorers during wartime. Julian must be responsible, George seeks adventures, Dick faces bravery, and Anne grows more confident. Timmy, meanwhile, faces a sausage shortage.
The episodes in the new series, Mystery at the Prospect Hotel and Big Trouble on Billycock Hill, is directed by Asim Abbasi and Tom Vaughan, respectively. Executive producers include Nicolas Winding Refn, Matthew Read, and Laura Fdez. Espeso. The series is produced by Sophie MacClancy and Matthew Wilson.
BBC Studios distributes the series internationally, excluding Spain, Portugal, and Latin America, where The Mediapro Studio Distribution holds rights. The series is a Moonage Pictures and byNWR co-production for the BBC and The Mediapro Studio.
