BBC Sport is scaling up its commitment to women’s sports coverage with a new rights pickup: the inaugural Tour of Britain Women will stream live across BBC iPlayer, the BBC Sport website, and app from June 5 to 8.
The four-stage cycling event—backed by British Cycling Events and already breaking records with 18 teams on the starting line—runs from Tees Valley to Glasgow and marks a significant programming addition for the BBC’s summer slate.
The move lands as BBC Sport doubles down on its women’s sports play, positioning Tour of Britain Women alongside live coverage of Queen’s, Wimbledon, Nottingham, and Eastbourne, plus Euro 2025 qualifiers, the Women’s Rugby World Cup, and more. Women’s cricket and highlights from the World Athletics Championships also round out the packed season.
Social and digital will factor heavily into the campaign, with highlight clips and race moments deployed across the BBC’s platforms. It’s a play that tracks with what BBC Sport Director Alex Kay-Jelski says is a broader editorial strategy: giving audiences not just access, but storytelling depth around the athletes.
For British Cycling Events MD Jonathan Day, the record-setting participation and broadcast footprint signal how far the women’s field has come—and how much further it’s pushing.
