The search continues for the UK’s most talented young classical musician as the auditions reach their second stage. With participants from Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and all English regions, the competition is intense and the standard of playing is exceptionally high.
Presenter and saxophonist Jess Gillam, a former finalist of BBC Young Musician in 2016, connects with the young musicians and gains insights from the competition’s esteemed judges. The judging panel includes multi-award-winning trumpet player Alison Balsom, pianist Alexis Ffrench, and multi-instrumentalist Hannah Catherine Jones. Together, they must make challenging decisions to narrow down the field to just 12 quarter-finalists.
In this episode, there is a wide range of performances, including pianists, violinists, trumpeters, bassoonists, percussionists, harpists, and cellists. Each young musician highlights their unique talent and passion for music, making it a challenging task for the judges to select the very best.
As the auditions draw to a close, the judges reveal their choices for the quarter-finals, and the selected musicians move one step closer to the coveted title of BBC Young Musician.
