Gethin Jones, host of Morning Live, will take on his most arduous physical challenge to date on March 16, 2023. He plans on dancing all day and night to benefit Red Nose Day, an organisation that helps those in dire straits.
Geth will be put through his paces by a new strictly pro or judge every hour. A few well-known and friendly figures, such as Alex Jones of The One Show, will be there to encourage him as well.
On March 16th, a special episode of The One Show benefiting Comic Relief will air. When Alex, accompanied by a fan favourite from Strictly, takes the stage that night to encourage Geth to keep dancing, the audience will be treated to a show full of shimmies and sways. She’ll choose the beat, the song, and the dance steps; will she take it easy on Geth or throw him for a loop? In all likelihood, she won’t be taking it easy.
Some of the other celebrities who will be cheering Geth on in his epic dance challenge are Tess Daly, Claudia Winkleman, Shirley Ballas, Anton Du Beke, Oti Mabuse, Janette Manrara, Kym Marsh, Helen Skelton, Dr. Ranj, and Dr. Xand Van Tulleken, with many more exciting names to be announced in the coming weeks.
The massively ambitious programme will kick off at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 17 (Red Nose Day), during BBC Morning Live and continue in the Morning Live studio all day and night.
The live broadcast will be available online and on the BBC iPlayer, and viewers will be able to ask questions of Gethin and make donations to Comic Relief.
Donations will be accepted by text and online. The only rule – Gethin MUST keep dancing for 24 hours!
Gethin says: “I cannot WAIT to get started on this epic Strictly Fitness challenge for Comic Relief. It’s going to be absolutely brutal, and take all I’ve got, but I’m doing everything I can to train and get ready for the big day, because I’m determined to raise as much money as possible.”
“I love Red Nose Day and everything they do for people going through the toughest times of their lives, in the UK and around the world. Every day on Morning Live we talk about, and hear, how much people are struggling right now. It’s never felt more important to throw everything into trying to help, and raise as much as we can for those who need it most. And hopefully, have a little fun along the way too. Well, maybe for the first hour!”
Samir Patel, CEO of Comic Relief, says: “Each year, we are completely blown away by the extraordinary lengths our celebrity supporters and partners will go to, to raise money to help others and this year is no exception. We are enormously grateful to Gethin and the Morning Live team for taking on this incredible 24-hour challenge for Red Nose Day at a time when donations have never felt more needed. We’re all rooting for you Gethin and here for you every step of the way!”
Gethin is taking on this test to raise money for Comic Relief, an organisation that helps people in the UK and throughout the world who are going through difficult times to escape poverty. People experiencing the cost-of-living crisis will benefit from the funds donated, which will also be used to address challenges including homelessness, mental health issues, and food insecurity in the UK and beyond.
BBC One’s morning show, “Morning Live,” is a staple of the British public’s media diet. It’s been on the air for almost two years, and it’s a fan favourite thanks to its humorous take on health, consumer, topical, and lifestyle goods. It is the most viewed live midday television programme, with daily ratings consistently above 1.2 million viewers.
