So, Thanksgiving, right? Big turkey, family, awkward political discussions with your uncle… and sides. Lots and lots of sides. Food Network apparently gets this, so they’re skipping the main course entirely in the latest installment of Beat Bobby Flay: Holiday Throwdown. The episode, aptly titled “Bird Is Not the Word,” airs Tuesday, November 12th at 9/8c and is expected to bring all the stuffing, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce-related drama you can handle.
This third season premiere finds Bobby Flay facing off against a trio of culinary contenders: Christian Petroni, Adrienne Cheatham, and Michael Voltaggio. Host Eddie Jackson will preside over the festivities, presumably while making dad jokes and sneaking bites of whatever isn’t nailed down.
The premise is straightforward enough: Flay, known for his Southwestern-infused cuisine, must abandon his usual tricks and try to conquer the world of Thanksgiving side dishes.
Frankly, it’s a clever hook. Everyone has a favorite Thanksgiving side, and the debate over which reigns supreme can get… spirited. Focusing on this often-overlooked aspect of the holiday meal could be a smart move, tapping into the specific, and sometimes intense, culinary preferences of viewers.
