Ben Fogle’s New Lives in the Wild journeys to the Isle of Wight, where he meets a family whose idyllic cliffside existence faces some serious challenges. Gav, Lucy, and their son Bo have embraced a life of permaculture, living off the land in a self-sufficient manner. However, their dream life has been anything but smooth. Gav shares how meeting Lucy turned his life around.
Now their cliffside home isn’t only threatened by the forces of nature—but also by legal disputes with their neighbours, adding an extra degree of difficulty to their already precarious situation. Looming over everything is the ever-present threat of a landslide, which could sweep away their home and livelihood in an instant. Ben gets his hands dirty, helping the family tend to their goats and manage their compost.
As always, he’s there not just to observe but to participate, gaining a firsthand understanding of the realities of their lifestyle.
