Bill Maher, HBO’s resident provocateur, is returning to the network with his 13th comedy special, “Is Anyone Else Seeing This?” The special, filmed live at Chicago’s CIBC Theater, is set to premiere in January, promising Maher’s signature blend of political commentary and social satire.
This latest offering marks a continuation of Maher’s long and fruitful relationship with HBO, which began way back in 1989. Over the years, he’s delivered 12 previous comedy specials for the network, along with 22 seasons (and counting) of his talk show, Real Time with Bill Maher. He’s no stranger to courting controversy, and this new special looks to be no exception.
Maher hints that “Is Anyone Else Seeing This?” will take aim at the absurdities of American politics, skewering the extremes of both sides of the aisle. He’s also promised to inject some personal anecdotes into the mix, even joking about including details of his sex life. C’Mon that’s a step too far!
HBO executive Nina Rosenstein praised Maher’s “steadfast commitment to honesty and humor,” acknowledging his distinctive voice within the network’s programming. With a career spanning decades and boasting 41 Emmy nominations, Maher’s ability to provoke, entertain, and occasionally enrage remains undiminished. For those weary of partisan bickering and craving a dose of unfiltered comedic relief, Maher’s latest offering could be just the ticket.
