“Bill Russell: Legend” Netflix Drop Official Trailer
Netflix have dropped the official trailer for Bill Russell: Legend, a two part documentary that captures the extraordinary life and legacy of the former NBA player and civil rights pioneer.
Bill Russell was an unstoppable force on the court, a champion who would give his all for his team and the game he loved. Bill Russell was a pioneer in NBA boycotts and a fierce opponent of racism off the court, marching with the great Martin Luther King Jr. An NBA legend and a civil rights hero, Bill Russell’s story is told in BILL RUSSELL: LEGEND.
The final interview with Bill before his death in 2022 and access to his extensive personal archives are featured in this two-part film by award-winning director Sam Pollard (MLK/FBI, Lowndes County and the Road to Black Power).
While playing basketball, Russell won a total of thirteen championships with the Boston Celtics throughout the course of his career. This includes two consecutive NCAA crowns, an Olympic gold medal in 1956, and eleven championships (his last two as the first Black head coach in NBA history).
Russell was a major player off the court in the fight for civil rights. He marched with Martin Luther King Jr., led NBA boycotts over racist policies, and spoke out against segregation.
Bill Russell: Legend, narrated by actors Jeffrey Wright and Corey Stoll and featuring unique interviews with the icon’s family and friends as well as Steph Curry, Chris Paul, “Magic” Johnson, Larry Bird, Jim Brown, and more, shows how Russell was tall in every meaning of the word.
