The acclaimed BBC comedy-thriller Black Ops is back in production, with filming underway for a second series on BBC One and iPlayer. BAFTA winner Gbemisola Ikumelo returns as Dom, alongside Hammed Animashaun as Kay, and Akemnji Ndifornyen as Tevin.
This season introduces an array of guest stars, such as Tom Stourton, Nigel Havers, Annette Badland, Ed Speleers, and Cathy Tyson. The new series starts with Dom and Kay working for MI5, stuck in administrative roles. That changes when Dom encounters a charming spy, Steve, drawing them into a high-stakes situation that tests their skills and their bond.
Ikumelo describes returning to set as “like rediscovering your favourite shoes.” Ndifornyen teases a “wild and thrilling comedy ride.” The first series achieved impressive viewing figures, with the premiere attracting 2.3 million, and an average of 1.6 million across all episodes.
Black Ops is a BBC Studios Comedy Production, co-produced with Mondo Deluxe. The creative team includes Gbemisola Ikumelo, Akemnji Ndifornyen, Joe Tucker, and Lloyd Woolf. Josh Cole serves as Executive Producer, with Seb Barwell and Rhianna Adams-Christie as Commissioning Editors for the BBC. Akaash Meeda directs, and Kim Crowther produces. BBC Studios, responsible for international distribution, will promote Black Ops at the BBC Studios Showcase in February 2025. The Second Series will be available on the BBC later this year.
