Travis Fimmel and Megan Smart are back in the chilling world of Black Snow, with season two hitting Stan on New Year’s Day. A new preview hints at the dual investigations facing Detective Cormack. He’s professionally tasked with solving the 20-year-old cold case of Zoe Jacobs’ (Jana McKinnon) vanishing after her 21st birthday party. Simultaneously, Cormack grapples with a deeply personal quest: finding his own missing brother, lost in childhood.
Filming against the dramatic backdrop of Queensland’s Glasshouse Mountains, the new season introduces several fresh faces. Jana McKinnon and Megan Smart join the cast, alongside Alana Mansour, Dan Spielman, Victoria Haralabidou, and Kat Stewart.
Following the international success of the first season, which reached audiences across three continents (including the US, UK, and Canada) and has recently secured distribution deals in various other territories, expectations are high for the second installment. The show’s recognition at the 2023 Logie Awards (nominated for Most Outstanding Drama Series) and the 2024 AACTA Awards (including nominations for Best Drama Series and Best Lead Actor for Fimmel) further fuels anticipation.
Key creatives from the first season return, including director Sian Davies, executive producer Rosemary Blight, and series creator Lucas Taylor. Helena Brooks joins as a director, alongside Travis Fimmel, who adds directing to his on-screen duties. Notably, season one’s lead actor, Talijah Blackman-Corowa, also contributes to the new season as a director’s attachment, with support from Screen Queensland.
The production is a collaboration between Goalpost Pictures, All3Media International, and Sundance Now, with financial backing from Screen Queensland, Screen NSW, and the City of Gold Coast. Stan executives Cailah Scobie and Amanda Duthie oversee the project. American viewers can catch season two on Sundance Now in 2025.
Australian audiences can stream a double episode premiere on January 1st on Stan, followed by weekly releases.
