On Wednesday, 9 October 2024, True Crime will broadcast an episode of Bloodline Detectives titled “Terror in Garden Grove.” The episode centres on the tragic case of 19-year-old Janet Stallcup, a nursing student who met a gruesome fate in 1976.
Stallcup was last seen leaving her apartment in Garden Grove, California, destined for a holiday party. Sadly, her body was discovered eight days later, inside her car, just 2.5 miles from her residence. The young woman had been raped and murdered, and her case remained shrouded in mystery for a staggering 44 years.
Dozens of Orange County investigators tirelessly worked on the case, and their efforts, combined with advancements in DNA technology, finally bore fruit in 2021. This breakthrough came in the form of a genealogical DNA database, which linked Terry Dean Hawkins to the heinous crime.
Hawkins though, had passed away in the Orange County Jail in 1977, only a year after Stallcup’s murder, but this identification brought a measure of closure to the victim’s family and loved ones.
Bloodline Detectives: Terror in Garden Grove airs on Wednesday, 9 October 2024, at 10:00 PM on True Crime.
