This week’s Blue Bloods, “The Gray Areas,” seems to be hitting all the familiar notes: a murder mystery with a twist, an officer in trouble, and Frank dealing with political shenanigans courtesy of the mayor’s office.
First up, Danny and Baez are on the case of a dead MMA fighter. I do kind of hope this leads to some entertainingly choreographed fight sequences and a trip to a dimly lit, sweaty underground fight club. Badillo, meanwhile, finds himself on the wrong side of the law after getting caught with a little something he shouldn’t have. Eddie and Jamie, naturally, find themselves in the unenviable position of trying to keep him from losing his badge. Will their efforts involve any impassioned speeches about second chances or perhaps a desperate plea to a higher-up with a soft spot for underdogs?
Then there’s Frank, who always seems to have a fresh headache courtesy of City Hall. This time, Mayor Chase decides to deploy the National Guard to patrol the subways, a move that’s sure to spark a lively (and probably loud) debate around the Reagan dinner table. Expect some stern pronouncements about the appropriate use of military force in civilian life and maybe even a thinly veiled jab at the mayor’s political ambitions.
And let’s not forget Erin, who’s busy with a mock trial that takes a serious turn when the supposed “winner” gets busted for drugs. This could be a chance for Erin to show off her legal prowess, but knowing Blue Bloods, it will probably involve a complicated ethical dilemma and a tense confrontation with a particularly smug defense attorney.
“The Gray Areas” is shaping up to be a typical Blue Bloods episode, hitting all the expected beats. But hey, sometimes predictable is comforting, especially when they are so few episodes left.
Blue Bloods: The Gray Areas airs Friday, November 22, 2024 at 10:00 PM, ET/PT on CBS.
