So, the Reagans are hanging up their holsters. After fourteen seasons of Sunday dinners, precinct drama, and Frank Reagan staring intensely at various wrongdoers, CBS has announced the airdate two-part series finale of Blue Bloods. Will it be a blaze of glory? A quiet, reflective ending? A shocking twist involving a long-lost Reagan cousin nobody knew existed? We’ll soon find out, but one thing’s certain: this is a big deal for CBS, and an even bigger deal for the viewers who have stuck with this procedural comfort food for nearly a decade and a half.
The two-parter kicks off Friday, December 6, with “Entitlement,” an episode that seems determined to cram in as many classic Blue Bloods tropes as possible before the final curtain. We’ve got Eddie and Badillo wrestling with a squatter who just so happens to be Jamie’s informant (because why not?), Danny and Baez on a student death case, Frank butting heads with the governor (again), and Erin apparently taking a break from lawyering to become a part-time matchmaker for Anthony. It’s business as usual, at least for one more week.
Then, on Friday, December 13 (ominous, much?), the aptly titled “End of Tour” brings the series to a close. New York City finds itself on the brink of chaos as gangs unite to demand amnesty for their incarcerated members. Naturally, the entire Reagan clan must band together to avert disaster. Edward James Olmos guest stars. Let’s just hope nobody accidentally sets the dinner table on fire amidst all the city-saving.
The series wraps up with a healthy 293 episodes under its belt – enough material for a truly epic Thanksgiving weekend binge-watch, starting with the November 29 special celebrating the series. And while details are scarce, a spin-off is reportedly in early development, suggesting the Reagan saga might not be over just yet. Until then let’s see how Commissioner Reagan handles his last tour of duty. He’ll probably just stare really hard at the problem until it goes away.
Both episodes will air on CBS at 10:00 PM ET/PT and be available to stream on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs).
“Entitlement” is written by Yasmine Cadet & Daniel Truly and directed by Jackeline Tejada. “End of Tour” is written by Siobhan Byrne O’Connor & Kevin Wade and directed by Alex Zakrzewski.
