The fourth episode of Britain’s Most Beautiful Road takes viewers on a journey along the North Coast 500, one of Scotland’s most scenic routes. The episode, airing on Saturday, 24 August 2024, at 8:00 pm on Channel 4, introduces us to the organisers and riders of the Bealach Mor, a gruelling cycling event that tests the limits of endurance. Riders take on the formidable Applecross Peninsula, located on the southwest corner of the route, and tackle the infamous demanding 90 mile ride Bealach Na Baa, the steepest climb of any bike race in the UK.
Nearby, in the town of Tain, we meet Highland craftsman Brodie Nairn, who is pushing the boundaries of his craft. Glass designer Brodie is preparing to re-open his onsite gallery, showcasing a brand-new range of work inspired by the beauty of nature.
Cheesemaker Rory Stone takes a traditional Highland cheese and gives it a modern twist. Crowdie cheese, a once-simple crofter’s cheese, has been elevated by Rory, who aims to bring it to fine dining menus. He creates a batch for an award-winning local chef, hoping to impress and expand the horizons of this humble curd.
Plus, seasoned ranger Gregor takes centre stage as he educates the public on the importance of respecting his beloved Highlands.
