In the season premiere of Magnolia’s Building Outside the Lines, builder Jared “Cappie” Capp and his daughter Alex undertake a project of truly epic – or perhaps just eccentric – proportions: transforming a 757 airplane fuselage into a tiny home. The sheer audacity of the concept is enough to pique one’s interest. Will the finished product resemble a stylishly repurposed aircraft cabin or a glorified metal tube with a composting toilet? Can a structure designed for soaring through the skies be successfully adapted for grounded living? How do you even transport a 757 fuselage, let alone maneuver it onto a foundation? These logistical questions alone could fuel an entire season of reality TV gold.
Beyond the engineering feats, the episode also focuses on the father-daughter dynamic between Cappie and Alex. Working together on such an ambitious project is bound to create its share of friction, even for the most harmonious of families. Will they clash over design choices or bonding over shared power tool mishaps? Will Alex roll her eyes at Cappie’s dad jokes while simultaneously admiring his construction prowess? Only time – and the inevitable montage sequences set to upbeat indie-folk music – will tell.
