UKTV has commissioned a new series of Canal Boat Diaries for its factual channel U&YESTERDAY and free streaming service, U. The sixth series will take viewers on a journey through the picturesque countryside and canals of southern England, including Oxfordshire, Hampshire, Berkshire, and Wiltshire.
The show, which has been a success for the network, delivered one of U&YESTERDAY’s strongest box-set launches on the U streaming service with its previous series.
Presenter Robbie Cumming will be retracing his first-ever canal boat journey, a trip he made a decade ago, though this time in reverse and with some new rivers and canals. Cumming commented on the challenges of the last series, hoping for better luck this time as he celebrates a significant milestone: “In the last series I encountered some of the most challenging canals I’ve ever waded through, spent a lot of time down the weed hatch, broke windows, lost equipment, got stuck in locks and dropped my phone in the canal. So, who knows what will happen – I’m just hoping for a bit more luck this time!”
The new series is executive produced by David Sumnall of Middlechild and produced by Stuart Woodman, who has been with the show since its inception.
Canal Boat Diaries has been commissioned for UKTV by commissioning executive Tracy-Jean and head of factual and factual entertainment Helen Nightingale. The series was ordered for U&YESTERDAY by channel director Gerald Casey and director of commissioning Hilary Rosen.
The sixth series of Canal Boat Diaries is currently in production and will air in 2025 on the U&Yesterday channel and streaming service U.
Canal Boat Diaries is produced by Middlechild for UKTV.
