Race Against The Tide

The scenic shores of New Brunswick’s Bay of Fundy will once again play host to the world’s toughest sand sculpting competition, as CBC’s Race Against the Tide returns for its fourth season. Premiering on Sunday, April 28, the ten-episode series will see ten highly skilled sand sculpting teams from around the world battle it out to create extraordinary works of art.

Each week, the teams will have just six hours to sculpt their masterpieces before the world’s highest tide rushes in to wash them away. It’s a demanding outdoor art competition, where the sculptors must not only outdo each other but also race against the forces of nature.

Hosted by Maestro Fresh Wes

The season will be hosted by Canadian music icon Maestro Fresh Wes, who recently made history as the first hip-hop artist inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame at the 2024 JUNO Awards. This adds to an already impressive list of achievements for the artist, including 14 JUNO nominations and wins in categories such as Best Rap Recording of the Year and Best Video.

Maestro Fresh Wes, born Wesley Williams in 1968, is often hailed as the “‘Godfather of Canadian Hip-Hop.’ He broke new ground for hip-hop and rap in Canada and is known for his influential single, “”Let Your Backbone Slide,” which became the first Canadian hip-hop track to enter the Top 40 charts.

Governor General Arts Award

Maestro Fresh Wes will also be receiving the Governor General’s Arts Award on June 8, becoming the first rap artist to receive this honour. This award celebrates exceptional careers in the visual and media arts, with up to eight awards distributed annually. Maestro Fresh Wes will be recognized for his groundbreaking contributions to Canadian music and his ongoing inspiration to the next generation of artists.
