CBS Cancels So Help Me Todd After Two Seasons

So Help Me Todd

CBS has pulled the plug on the mother-son legal drama So Help Me Todd after two seasons. The series starred Marcia Gay Harden and Skylar Astin as Margaret and Todd Wright, a formidable attorney and her aimless yet talented private investigator son, who begrudgingly agrees to work at his mother’s law firm.

The show’s cancellation comes as a disappointment to fans, with some expressing their hopes for another network to pick it up. While So Help Me Todd had a strong start, with its first season receiving an early renewal, it seems that the show’s ratings were not enough to secure its future.

The series, which premiered on September 29, 2022, was created by Scott Prendergast and executive produced by Elizabeth Klaviter, Dr. Phil McGraw, Jay McGraw, and Julia Eisenmann. It also starred Madeline Wise, Inga Schlingmann, Tristen J. Winger, and Rosa Evangelina Arredondo.

So Help Me Todd conclude its second season on May 16, 2024. The show averaged 6.2 million total viewers and a 0.5 demo rating for the season, matching its freshman numbers.

CBS has not shared the specific reasons behind the show’s cancellation, but it is speculated that it was due to low ratings and the need to make room for new additions to the network’s schedule. With several new shows already set to debut next season, including the Matlock reboot and the multi-cam comedy Poppa’s House, CBS has had to make some tough choices.

The cancellation of So Help Me Todd highlights the competitive nature of the TV landscape, where even solid performers with dedicated fan bases can find themselves at risk of being cut short.
