Billy Bob Thornton Strikes Oil on CBS Mornings: Talking “Landman” Before Paramount+ Debut

CBS Mornings Key Art

Billy Bob Thornton is gracing the CBS Mornings set this Thursday. He’s there to talk about his latest project, “Landman,” a Taylor Sheridan creation hitting Paramount+ on November 17.

“Landman,” based on the “Boomtown” podcast, plants its flag firmly in the oil-soaked landscape of West Texas. It’s a world of roughnecks, billionaires, and, one assumes, a whole lot of Stetsons. Thornton plays Tommy Norris, a crisis manager trying to keep the oil flowing and, presumably, his family from imploding. Joining him in this dusty drama are Ali Larter, Michelle Randolph, and Jacob Lofland.

Sheridan, the mastermind behind the “Yellowstone” universe, has penned all ten episodes of “Landman.” Given his track record with gritty Westerns and complicated family sagas, expect “Landman” to deliver a similar blend of tough talk, tense standoffs, and enough interpersonal drama to fuel a dozen derricks. The show is also expected to wrestle with weightier issues like climate change, global economics, and the kind of power struggles that make boardrooms look like playgrounds.

So, while the geopolitical ramifications of all that Texas tea remain to be dissected in the show itself, you can get a preview of what to expect when Thornton saddles up to the CBS Mornings couch this Thursday. Tune in to hear what he has to say about wrangling another Sheridan character, and to find out just how close “Landman” comes to striking black gold.

CBS Mornings airs on Thursday, November 14, 2024, from 7:00-9:00 AM on CBS.
