On Friday, June 14, CBS Mornings welcomes senior culture correspondent Anthony Mason, who will sit down with legendary American alternative rock band R.E.M. and editorial director at Amazon Books, Sarah Gelman.

R.E.M., formed in 1980 in Athens, Georgia, is known for their unique sound, blending elements of punk rock, folk rock, and impressionistic folk. The band’s lineup included drummer Bill Berry, guitarist Peter Buck, bassist Mike Mills, and lead vocalist Michael Stipe. With a career spanning over four decades, R.E.M. has left an indelible mark on the music industry, influencing countless artists and selling over 90 million albums worldwide. Their most commercially successful albums, “Out of Time” (1991) and “Automatic for the People” (1992), solidified their place in the vanguard of alternative rock.
