The show will also feature Tomoaki Hamatsu, the subject of the new Hulu documentary “The Contestant.” The documentary tells the story of Hamatsu’s experience on the 1998 Japanese reality TV show “Susunu! Denpa Shonen,” where he was challenged to survive alone and unclothed in an apartment, entering sweepstakes to win prizes. Hamatsu’s diaries from his time on the show became bestsellers in Japan, and the TV show broke records with 17 million viewers each week. “The Contestant” provides a sensitive and thoughtful exploration of Hamatsu’s journey and the ethical implications of reality television.
