So Ian “H” Watkins, the one from Steps who isn’t Claire from Steps, is ditching the pop star life for something a bit more…pastoral. Think less “Tragedy” and more “Tractor.” In Monday’s episode of Celebrity Escape to the Country, H and his partner, Tom, are on a mission to find the ideal family home in the bucolic splendor of South Wales, H’s old stomping grounds.
Don’t expect any five-star hotel demands here. Well, maybe a few. After all, this is a man accustomed to a certain level of international pop star pampering. Property expert Denise Nurse will be tasked with finding homes worthy of a chart-topper, hopefully with enough room for a dance studio and maybe a sheep or two. Speaking of sheep, H and Tom won’t just be browsing brochures. They’ll be getting their hands dirty with some sheep herding and soaking up some local culture at a Welsh tea plantation. They’ve even crafted a special “Escape to the Country” dance, which, honestly, is more than I ever expected from this show.
This episode isn’t just about bricks and mortar; it’s about homecoming. H’s return to South Wales is sure to be filled with nostalgia, local lingo, and probably some awkward encounters with people who remember him from his pre-fame days. Let’s just hope nobody asks him to demonstrate the “5, 6, 7, 8” routine while wrangling sheep. That could get messy.
Celebrity Escape to the Country airs Monday, December 30, at 6:30 PM on BBC One.
