Channel 4 is planting a flag on Spotify. The UK broadcaster is making its digital youth brand Channel 4.0 available on the platform in a first-of-its-kind move that expands its reach into the fast-growing world of video podcasts.

The rollout, part of the Spotify Partner Program launched earlier this year, makes Channel 4 the first UK broadcaster to distribute video content on the streamer. Titles including Minor Issues (Wall of Entertainment), Hear Me Out (After Party Studios), and Secret Sauce (Acme Films and Wall of Entertainment) will land on Spotify’s mobile and desktop platforms in the coming weeks.

It’s a strategic extension of Channel 4’s “Fast Forward” plan, a long-range pivot aiming to make the publicly owned network a digital-first streamer by 2030. The move comes as Spotify reports a 95% year-on-year increase in video podcast viewing in the UK—a clear signal of where Gen Z and younger millennials are spending their screen time.

The Spotify play builds on Channel 4’s track record with digital expansion. Since 2018, it’s moved aggressively onto platforms like Snapchat, TikTok (since 2021), and YouTube—where it was the first UK broadcaster to launch longform content. The goal has been consistent: meet younger viewers where they already are.

Outgoing CEO Alex Mahon has been vocal about the network’s need to follow younger audiences across platforms. The Spotify partnership gives Channel 4.0 another distribution channel with global scale and growing relevance.

For Spotify, which is investing heavily in video podcasts and creator tools, the addition of Channel 4 adds credibility and high-production content to its library. It’s also a clear signal that the platform is looking to court more traditional broadcasters as part of its monetization strategy.

More Channel 4.0 content is expected to roll out throughout the year.
