Channel 4 Announce Documentary CAR BOOT KINGS

Car Boot Kings (60′), a documentary produced by Yeti Television, has been commissioned by Channel 4 as part of the network’s First Cut initiative, which supports first-time television directors.
As a result of the recession and the British penchant for a good deal, car boot sales have seen a resurgence. Car Boot Kings follows two best friends through their efforts to capitalise on the recession by hosting weekly flea markets in their front garden, which attract upwards of 9,000 buyers and sellers.
In the wild West Midlands, JT and Andrew are known as the “Car Boot Kings” for operating the largest boot. While the rest of Britain is asleep, thousands of people flock to their fields in search of deals, hoping to make a profit by buying and selling secondhand goods or discovering hidden treasure. These are huge, temporary markets that appear out of nowhere and sell practically everything.
Some people rely on the money they find in their car’s trunk as a means of survival. The supplemental income is crucial for many regulars who use it to provide for their families. The crown is a heavy burden for the heads of Kings. It’s a constant struggle to satisfy budget-conscious customers while still turning a profit. And will the weather improve for Booters and Kings during the brief summer season?
Shooting Producer/Director, Cam Bang Peter Tat, said, “Having worked in the TV industry for years, I’ve found it very difficult to get the opportunity to produce my own one-hour documentary so getting a First Cut with Yeti was perfect. To secure the role, myself and two other filmmakers, had to write a two-page treatment for the commissioner, outlining our approach to transforming the pitch document into a compelling documentary.”
Car Boot Kings is scheduled to TX on Channel 4 in October.
The documentary was produced and directed by Cam Bang Peter Tat under Channel 4’s First Cut scheme. It was commissioned by Janine Thomas, and exec produced by Yeti’s Siân Price and Simon Greenwood.
