A Quiet Neighbourhood is Turned Upside Down by a Simple Kitchen Extension
Channel 5 have announced a new six-part drama series, The Feud, which explores the dark side of suburbia as a peaceful neighbourhood descends into chaos following a dispute over a kitchen extension. The series stars Jill Halfpenny and Rupert Penry-Jones as Emma and John Barnett, whose seemingly idyllic life is shattered by hidden animosities and dangerous secrets.
The Feud explores the intricate relationships within a seemingly tranquil neighbourhood. The Barnetts, at first enjoying cordial ties with their neighbours, find themselves entangled in a web of tension and long-simmering grievances when they decide to extend their kitchen.
This peaceful street transforms into a stage for paranoia and unease as the series explores themes of aspiration and obsession. The Barnetts’ dream home ambitions set off a chain of catastrophic events, affecting not just their household but the entire street.
Taking centre stage is Jill Halfpenny, portraying Emma Barnett, a woman battling to preserve her idyllic life amidst the chaos unleashed by their home renovation plans. Halfpenny will be recognised for her roles in Coronation Street and EastEnders and the recent Channel 5 messy thriller The Cuckoo.
Playing opposite her is Rupert Penry-Jones, known for his work in Spooks and Silk. He takes on the role of John Barnett, Emma’s husband, and a successful property developer. John’s encounter with a new neighbour sparks a rivalry that endangers the stable world he has carefully built.
The Feud also boasts a talented supporting cast. Amy Nuttall, plays Sonia while Ray Fearon as Alan and James Fleet as Derek lend their veteran presence and a touch of humour to the street’s dynamic.
As tensions rise, the Barnetts’ relationships unravel, and their dream home becomes a nightmare. Secrets and suspicions emerge, transforming the once peaceful street into a place of intrigue and uncertainty.
The Feud is currently filming in Newcastle and is set to air on Channel 5 in 2025.
