Channel 5’s ‘Dalgliesh’ Teases Three Twisty Tales in Series 3

Dalgliesh

Channel 5’s gritty crime drama ‘Dalgliesh‘ is back with a bang for its third series, offering a triple dose of suspense as it adapts three of P.D. James’ international bestselling murder mysteries.

The show, an Acorn TV and Channel 5 Original produced by New Pictures, commenced filming in Northern Ireland with a fresh face behind the camera—lead actor Bertie Carvel steps up to direct.

Carvel will also reprise his role as the enigmatic Chief Inspector Adam Dalgliesh, now promoted to Commander, and the new series sees him tackle three highly sensitive murder cases:

– “Death in Holy Orders“: Dalgliesh is called to a remote seminary by a lake, where a gruesome murder has taken place. With nearly everyone having a reason to resent the victim, untangling the complex web of motives proves challenging.

– “Cover Her Face“: This time, Dalgliesh delves into a murder within the Essex home of the incredibly wealthy Mehta family, whose connections to the British government add a layer of complexity. Working with local detective Clive Roscoe, he must pierce through the veil of secrecy maintained by guarded suspects.

– “Devices and Desires“: In this nail-biting narrative, Dalgliesh is tasked with an urgent mission to thwart a terrorist plot against a nuclear power station on the Kent coast. However, he soon finds himself entangled in a hunt for a serial killer, reuniting with former colleague Kate Miskin, now an acting DCI.

The series boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including returning stars Carlyss Peer (Kate Miskin) and Alistair Brammer (Daniel Tarrant). They are joined by notable guest stars such as Anton Lesser (“Endeavour”), Lloyd Owen (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”), and Claire Goose (“Silverpoint”).

Commenting on his dual role as actor and director, Carvel expressed his excitement, particularly about tackling the adaptation of PD James’ first Dalgliesh novel, “Cover Her Face,” which he believes has “powerful and unsettling contemporary resonance.”

Acorn TV distributes the series in North America, New Zealand, Australia, and select Latin American countries, while All3Media International handles distribution for the rest of the globe.
