Channel 5 is set to debut The Hardacres this October, a six-part period drama that chronicles the lives of the Hardacre family in 1890s Yorkshire. Based on CL Skelton’s best-selling novels, The Hardacre Family Saga Books 1 & 2, the series follows a working-class family as they rise from humble beginnings on the fish docks to a life of wealth on a country estate after a business venture transforms their fortunes.
Filmed on location in Dublin and Wicklow, Ireland, the story follows the challenges the Hardacre family faces as they enter upper-class society, encountering hostility and snobbery from both their new peers and their household staff. The series depicts the stark contrasts between the working class and the aristocracy of the time.
The cast includes Claire Cooper (Hollyoaks) and Liam McMahon (Warrior Nun) as the parents, Mary and Sam Hardacre. They are joined by Julie Graham (The Bletchley Circle) as Mary’s mother, with their children portrayed by Adam Little, Shannon Lavelle, and Zak Ford-Williams.
The Hardacres will premiere on Monday, 7th October, at 9 pm on Channel 5. It is produced by Playground, who also make All Creatures Great and Small for 5.
