Channel 7’s Australian Idol Last Night – Grand Finalists Revealed
This Sunday, March 26th, at 8.00pm on Channel 7 and 7plus, watch the three finalists of this years Australian Idol—Royston Sagigi-Baira, 23, Phoebe Stewart, 15, and Josh Hannan, 20—compete for the title.
Although Anya Hynninen (19), Ben Sheehy (24) and Amali Dimond (16) saw their hopes dashed, the newly minted Grand Finalists had a night to remember.
The Top 6 kicked off the event with a fantastic rendition of “I Feel Good” by David Guetta FT Bebe Rexha, and then hosts Ricki-Lee and Scott Tweedie revealed that each finalist would perform twice before the winner was revealed.
First up was Royston, who belted out Foreigner’s “I Want to Know What Love Is,” and then Anya, who sang James Brown’s “It’s a Man’s Man’s World” with all her heart.
Anya and Royston were there together as Ricki-Lee made the big announcement that Royston had made it to the Grand Finals.
“I can’t believe this. This is crazy!” he said. “This is a testament [to the fact] that no matter where you come from, as long as you work hard, you can follow your dreams and they can come true.”
Ben then took the stage and performed the Joe Cocker standard The Letter, followed by Phoebe’s heartfelt rendition of “Lost Without You” by Freya Ridings.
It was revealed by Scott that Phoebe would be joining the other contestants in the final round.
“Thank you everyone for taking the time out of your life to appreciate music, the show and me. And I’m really happy I’m here. Thank you,” said Phoebe as she fought back tears.
Up next on stage were Josh and Amali. When Amali nailed Demi Lovato’s Warrior, Josh sang “Can’t Stop Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley.
Ricki-Lee said that Josh would be the third and final performer in Sunday’s Grand Finale.
” It’s a bit emotional,” Josh confessed through a sob. “Everyone who voted for me. It is an absolute dream for me to be here.”
The grand prize for Australian Idol is a recording contract with music industry powerhouse Sony Music and $100,000.
