In this second episode of Myth Country, Charlie Cooper heads to Wiltshire, a county well known for its ancient landmarks such as Stonehenge, Avebury, and the Westbury chalk horse. Cooper’s mission is to unravel the mysteries behind humanity’s innate desire to leave its mark on the landscape.
However, his investigation takes an unexpected turn as he shifts his focus to a more contemporary phenomenon: crop circles. Cooper aims to settle a long-standing debate within his family regarding the origin of these enigmatic patterns.
While his family believes aliens are responsible, Cooper approaches the topic with skepticism. He embarks on a quest for answers, consulting with farmers and the elusive ‘croppies,’ individuals who create crop circles under the cover of night.
With the assistance of his friend Scott, Cooper takes a hands-on approach to his research by attempting to create his own crop circle.
Charlie Cooper’s Myth Country: Marks on the Landscape airs on BBC Three on 11 October 2024.
