The Chelsea Detective Returns with Christmas Murder Mystery and Season 3

The Chelsea Detective Key Art

Just when you thought you could escape the deluge of holiday cheer, Acorn TV’s The Chelsea Detective returns with a Christmas special guaranteed to chill you faster than a glass of lukewarm eggnog. “Everyone Loves Chloe,” the Season 3 premiere arriving Monday, December 16, finds former pop star Chloe dead in her bathtub, a less-than-festive twist on the usual holiday bubble bath. DI Max Arnold (Adrian Scarborough) and DS Layla Walsh (Vanessa Emme), apparently unfazed by the impending Yuletide festivities, must now trade their Christmas pudding for police procedure and dive headfirst into a case more tangled than a string of broken fairy lights.

Chloe, it seems, wasn’t quite as universally adored as the episode title suggests. Her demanding manager, a nosy journalist, and even a Tory MP all lurk in the background, each harboring enough secrets to fill Santa’s sack. As Arnold and Walsh pick their way through this holly-decked crime scene, viewers can expect the series’ signature blend of sharp wit, keen observation, and a healthy dose of London’s scenic charm.

While “Everyone Loves Chloe” sets a decidedly wintry stage, the rest of Season 3, continuing in 2025 with three additional 90-minute episodes, branches out beyond Christmas carnage. The upcoming cases involve the death of an ex-soldier, a murdered antiques dealer, and the untimely demise of a climate scientist, suggesting that even amidst London’s vibrant cultural scene, danger lurks around every exquisitely decorated corner.

Beyond the case files, The Chelsea Detective will also take a look into its characters’ personal lives. Expect more on Max’s trials and tribulations in couples therapy and Layla’s struggles with the unique challenges of a long-distance relationship. Because honestly, solving murders is stressful enough without also having to figure out the proper emoji response to “I miss you.”

Tune in to Acorn TV on Monday, December 16, 2024, for the season three premiere of The Chelsea Detective.
