Chet, We Still Can’t Say Goodbye Premieres Friday April 19 on CMT

The upcoming CMT documentary, “Chet, We Still Can’t Say Goodbye,” offers viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the making of a special tribute album honoring the legendary musician, Chet Atkins. Airing on Friday, April 19, 2024, the documentary coincides with what would have been Chet Atkins’ 100th birthday, providing an intimate exploration of his enduring legacy.

The film looks into the creation of the tribute album, “We Still Can’t Say Goodbye: A Musicians’ Tribute to Chet Atkins,” which features an impressive array of artists from various musical genres. With 22 players and artists contributing to the 15-track album, the project is a testament to Atkins’ influence and impact on the music industry.

Produced by country and bluegrass musician and songwriter Carl Jackson, the album was recorded at Station West in Nashville, with engineering and mixing by Luke Wooten. The album’s first single, “Mr. Guitar,” is performed by Grammy Award-winning guitarist Tommy Emmanuel, one of only five people named a C.G.P. (Certified Guitar Player) by Chet Atkins himself.

The documentary sheds light on the collaborative process behind the album, showcasing the artists’ admiration for Atkins and their desire to honor his legacy. It captures the unique interpretations of Atkins’ music, blending country, rock, bluegrass, and acoustic styles.
