Chicago P.D. “Zoe” (NBC, Wednesday, January 22, 2025)

Chicago P.D. Key Art

Let’s just say NBC’s Chicago P.D. isn’t exactly known for its lighthearted romps through the Windy City. And “Zoe,” the upcoming tenth episode of the show’s twelfth season, looks set to continue that trend, this time turning up the heat on Adam Ruzek and Kim Burgess.

The pair, never strangers to a complicated case or two (or ten), find themselves tackling a particularly thorny investigation involving a young, unidentified girl. The details are, as per usual, scant, but the very presence of a child in peril practically guarantees a certain level of emotional wallop. If past seasons are anything to go by, expect some serious hand-wringing and probably a tense conversation or two in a dimly lit interrogation room.

But just when you think Ruzek and Burgess might have their hands full enough, the P.D. writers throw in a classic curveball: a mystery visitor. Who is this enigmatic figure? A relative of the girl? Someone from Ruzek or Burgess’s past? Frankly, your guess is as good as mine. NBC, in its infinite wisdom, is playing this one close to the vest, leaving us all to stew in our own speculation until Wednesday night.

Of course, the arrival of this mystery person raises all sorts of questions. Will they help or hinder the investigation? Throw a wrench into the already fragile Ruzek-Burgess dynamic? Or maybe – just maybe – offer a glimmer of hope amidst the usual Chicago P.D. gloom?
