Just when you thought things might be calming down in the Intelligence Unit – ha! – Chicago P.D. throws another wrench into the works. In “Penance,” airing this Wednesday, Officer Dante Torres’ carefully constructed façade starts to crack. Turns out, our boy Torres has been harboring a secret, and the truth, as they say, has a funny way of getting out. This is going to blow open the fall out from the relationship Torres had with Gloria Perez (Yara Martinez) who has now gone rogue. Last week’s episode finished with a banger of a cliff-hanger – with Cook, having gone undercover, putting her life literally on the line, thanks to Perez.
As if Torres’ impending implosion isn’t enough, Deputy Chief Charlie Reid (Shawn Hatosy), that ever-present thorn in the unit’s side, is ramping up the scrutiny. One can practically hear the ominous music swelling as Reid narrows his gaze, sensing weakness within the team. The question isn’t if Reid will discover Torres’ secret, but when – and what the fallout will be. Let’s just say the Intelligence Unit’s track record for handling internal drama isn’t exactly stellar.
So, will Torres manage to keep his secret buried, or will it explode, taking the unit down with him? Can the team actually function as a cohesive whole while battling their own internal demons? And just how much popcorn should we stock up on for the inevitable fireworks? Tune in to NBC this Wednesday at 10/9c for what is expected to be a particularly messy chapter in the ongoing saga of Chicago P.D.
