Hallmark has ordered a second season of its drama series The Chicken Sisters, based on the novel by KJ Dell’Antonia. Production on the new episodes is underway for a debut later this year.
Here’s the Lowdown: The series, which follows the dynamics between rival chicken restaurant families in the fictional town of Merinac, will return with its main cast. Schuyler Fisk, Genevieve Angelson, Lea Thompson, and Wendie Malick are all set reprise their roles. Production began today in Vancouver.
What This Means Now: Season two will see the characters Amanda, Mae, Nancy, and Gus attempt to use The Chicken Sisters restaurant to finally end a long-standing family feud. However, new conflict arises when Frank Je. opens a rival Mr. Chicken’s Cluckery nearby. David James Elliott joins the cast in a recurring guest role.
The Bigger Picture: Erin Gibson steps in as the new showrunner for season two, taking over from series developer Annie Mebane. The renewal indicates Hallmark’s confidence in the show’s appeal to its audience, continuing its investment in series adapted from popular books. The show is produced by Fox Entertainment Studios, Lighthouse Pictures, and Busy B Entertainment.
